The pioneer’s home.

Old pioneer home

This old house out here in the Murray Mallee where we live was built by the original pioneer settlers…The Kruger Family. It was built of limestone rocks gathered literally off the fields here, the mortar was of lime, gathered and burnt on this farm, the rafters and roof were of cut native pine trunks and branches and the thatching was of straw grown here on the land.

So in effect, this house was not originally built from materials brought to the property, but was risen from the very Earth around…and will most probably, in due course, settle back into the Earth…truly an extension of pure nature.

I have written this small testament to the integrity of the construct.

                                  This House.

Judge me not by sharpness and shine,

Just know thee that from the Earth be mine,

For I come not of base concrete and steel,

But Rather have risen from these very fields.

So when across my threshold you step,

Wrinkle thy nose not at my dusty drapes,

Rather, humble be at what THOU ought hope to create!
